Website Disclaimer
This site explains how landscape construction is done in general. Your property is not general, so please read what follows before relying on anything here.
Effective date: 30 September 2026.
General information only
The guides, service pages, FAQs and city pages on this website are published by RM Stone Design Inc. for general information. They are written to help you understand the work and ask better questions. They are not professional advice of any kind — engineering, architectural, surveying, arboricultural, legal or otherwise — and no professional relationship is created by reading them or by contacting us through the site.
Not a specification or a quotation
Where a page describes excavation, base materials and thicknesses, compaction, slopes, drainage, footings, frost protection or edge restraint, it describes common practice in the industry. The right build-up for a given site depends on its soil, grade, drainage, loading, access and use, and is decided only after an inspection. Nothing on this website is a promise that a particular method, material or dimension will be used on your project. What will be built is defined by your written contract alone.
Any timeframes, sequences or typical durations mentioned are illustrations. Actual schedules depend on weather, permits, material supply, site conditions and the scope agreed.
Permits, by-laws and approvals
Building permits, zoning rules, curb-cut and driveway-widening approvals, fence and pool-enclosure by-laws, tree protection, heritage designations, conservation authority regulation and lot-grading requirements all vary by municipality and by property, and they change. Some retaining walls and structures need an engineered design or a permit depending on their height and location. Mentions of these subjects on this site are general and may be out of date.
Before you plan or begin work, confirm the requirements that apply to your property directly with your municipality and any other authority with jurisdiction. Responsibility for permits and approvals on a given project is set out in that project’s written contract.
Property lines and surveys
Nothing on this website establishes where a property boundary lies. Fences, walls, driveways and grading near a lot line should be located from a survey prepared by an Ontario Land Surveyor. Boundary questions between neighbours are a legal matter, not a construction one.
Underground utilities
Gas, hydro, water, telecommunications and other services are buried under most residential lots. In Ontario, utility locates must be obtained through Ontario One Call before excavation. Do not dig, drive stakes or posts, or remove soil based on anything you read here.
Doing it yourself
If you use information from this website to plan or carry out work yourself, or to instruct someone else, you do so entirely at your own risk. Excavation, heavy materials, cutting equipment and changes to grade and drainage can cause injury and damage to your property or a neighbour’s.
Natural and manufactured materials
Natural stone varies in colour, veining, texture and dimension from piece to piece and from quarry run to quarry run. Concrete pavers, porcelain and other manufactured products vary between production batches, and samples, brochures and on-screen colours never match exactly. Concrete products can show efflorescence, a white mineral deposit that is a natural characteristic of cement-based materials. Outdoor surfaces in Ontario are exposed to freeze–thaw cycles, frost movement, de-icing salts and settlement, and they weather and change over time.
Descriptions of materials on this site are general. They are not a statement about the performance, colour or lifespan of any product used on a particular project.
Photographs and video
Photographs and video on this site show completed work. They may be cropped, straightened or colour-corrected for display, and they are shown to illustrate style and type of work. Your project’s appearance will depend on its own materials, site and design.
Accuracy and external resources
We try to keep this site accurate and current but make no representation that it is complete, correct or up to date. Links to government bodies, manufacturers and other outside resources are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.
Limitation of liability
So far as the law allows, RM Stone Design Inc. accepts no liability for any loss, damage, injury or expense arising from reliance on information on this website. The limits of our liability for use of the site are set out in full in the terms of service. Nothing in this disclaimer limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario) or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.
